SWU brings Rage Against the Machine, for the first time in South America

Brazilian fans have been waiting for the band since 1992, when the hit “Killing in the Name” was released. The band’s comeback at Coachella 2007 was the fastest sold out in history of the festival.

July 29, 2010 – SWU Music and Arts Festival – an event that takes place at Fazenda Maeda, in the city of Itu, São Paulo, between the 9th and 11th of October, mixing music, arts and awareness in an unique experience in Brazil – is proud to announce hugely anticipated Rage Against the Machine. This is the very first time the band plays in Brazil and South America.

RATM, one of the bands with the most dedicated and active fans in the world, is the headliner of SWU on the 9th of October. South American followers of the band, an icon of the 90’s, have been waiting for an opportunity to see RATM live in the continent since 1992, when the hit “Killing in the Name” was released.

In the year of 2000 the band has stopped it’s activities and surprised the public seven years later on their comeback at the Coachella festival, in the United States. They were the headliners of the festival, selling out the tickets in record time in the history of the festival.

Formed by Zack de La Rocha, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, RATM is one of the most influential bands of 90’s. Zach de la Rocha’s unique vocal style and Tom Morello’s innovative guitar sounds and riffs are some of the band’s trademarks. The group is very well known for their political actions and the protest character of their songs, marked by a heavy mixture of hip-hop, rock, funk, punk and metal.

RATM’s attitude is also very present in their legion of fans. In the end of 2009, seventeen years after it’s release, “Killing in the Name” hit #1 in the UK download charts, with over 500.000 downloads, thanks to a Facebook campaign created by fans of the band to break the monopoly of downloads of a UK TV show. The campaign gave the band huge visibility, being supported by artists such as Dave Grohl, The Prodigy and Paul McCartney.

Now, at SWU, RATM are prepared to present the Brazilian audience with a historic show.
